Jordi Alba: I have never had problems with Luis Enrique

Jordi Alba insists he has nothing but respect for Spain Coach Luis Enrique and dismissed reports of a fallout between the two.

The Barcelona full-back was left out of two consecutive Spain squads under his former club boss before being recalled this month ahead of the Nations League clash with Croatia.

“It is always exciting to be selected for the national team, but this time even more so,” Alba told reporters, as cited by Cadena Cope.

Spain have recalled Jordi Alba for upcoming games against Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina but dropped Paco Alcacer.

Alba had been absent from Luis Enrique’s first two Spain squads, amidst speculation that the left-back remained out of favour from the end of the Coach’s spell at Barcelona.

However, the 28-year-old returns after a strong start to the season with the Blaugrana, replacing Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso.

Elsewhere, Real Sociedad defender Diego Llorente and Espanyol’s Mario Hermoso are included for the first time.

Barcelona defender Jordi Alba has equated the feeling of beating Real Madrid in El Clasico to winning the Champions League.

The left-back put in a superb display as the Catalan giants defeated a lacklustre Madrid 5-1 in Sunday’s clash at the Camp Nou.

“To beat Real Madrid is a similar feeling to winning the Champions League,” Alba told reporters, as cited by Diario AS.

“I celebrated the goals a lot because they mean a lot to me and especially the third because we had to suffer a lot in the first period of the second half.

Barcelona will delay offering a new contract to defender Jordi Alba until the summer despite the player’s wishes, say Diario Sport.

The 29-year-old wants to commit his long-term future to the club but the Catalan giants are said to be delaying the offer for economic purposes.

The left-back’s current deal at the Camp Nou expires in June 2020 and possesses a €150m release clause but he wants an improved contract.
