Quique Setien hails 'remarkable' Barcelona

New Barcelona boss Quique Setien was full of praise for his side following their 1-0 win at home to Granada.

The defending La Liga champions sealed a narrow win over Diego Martinez's side thanks to a late goal from Lionel Messi, after dominating possession at the Camp Nou.

However, despite finding it difficult to break down the Granada defence, Setien was more than happy with his debut with the Catalan giants.

But despite struggling to break down their visitors, Busquets believes the squad if moving in the right direction under Setien.

Lionel Messi secures La Liga winning debut for Quique Setien at Barcelona

A late goal from Lionel Messi sealed a winning start for new Barcelona boss Quique Setien in a tight 1-0 victory at home to Granada.

Despite controlling the game, the home side struggled to break down their resilient visitors, until Messi's late intervention lifts them back above Real Madrid to the top of the La Liga table.

Barcelona dominated possession in the opening stages, with teenage striker Ansu Fati and Arturo Vidal both forcing strong saves from Granada keeper Rui Silva.

Barcelona's Marc Ter Stegen returns for Granada clash

Barcelona goal keeper Marc Ter Stegen has been included in the squad to face Granada tonight, after overcoming a knee injury.

The German international missed La Blagrana's first La Liga game of 2020, in the 2-2 Catalan derby draw at Espanyol, after suffering minor tendinitis in his knee. 

Former boss Ernesto Valverde opted to rest him for the Spanish Supercopa trip to Saudi Arabia, but he is now back fit, and will replace former Valencia keeper Neto in the starting line up.

Done deal: Granada loan Watford defender Dimitri Foulquier

Granada have completed the signing of Watford defender Dimitri Foulquier on loan until the end of the season.

The former France Under-21 international previously played for the Andalusian club between 2013 and 2017, making 98 appearances in that timeframe.

Foulquier has struggled to find game time with Watford during this campaign, featuring just five times - and making just one Premier League start, but he was taken off after 33 minutes in the 8-0 defeat at Manchester City.

The meeting is said to have taken place this week in Milan - where the Blaugrana player Inter in the Champions League - with Sassuolo sporting director Giovanni Carnevali present along with Barca vice president Jordi Cardoner and CEO Óscar Grau.

Quique Sanchez Flores sacked by Watford

Quique Sanchez Flores has been sacked from his role as Watford boss, the club has confirmed.

Flores returned to the club where he managed for the 2015/16 Premier League season, in September, following the sacking of Javi Gracia by the Hornets.

However, it has not gone to plan for Flores on his return to England, with Watford still bottom of the table, with just one win from 10 Premier League games under his leadership.

Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena set for loan exit

Barcelona are set to loan out midfielder Carles Alena in January without a purchase option, say Diario Sport.

The Catalan outlet say that Alena will be loaned out in the short term with Ivan Rakitic and Moussa Wague also set to exit the Camp Nou, with no arrivals in January.
