Leganes ask to repeat Levante game due to VAR mistake

Leganes president Victoria Pavon has demanded her side’s match against Levante be repeated following VAR controversy.

Levante were awarded a penalty in Butarque in the 44th minute of Saturday’s clash, with replays suggesting the foul had been made outside the penalty area and VAR said not to be functioning properly.

The Valencia-based side ran out 2-1 victors with Roger Marti converting the subsequent penalty just before half-time to open the scoring for Paco Lopez’s side.

Lucas Vazquez: Eden Hazard will be key in 2019-20

Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Vazquez is confident Eden Hazard will have a huge role to play this season.

The Belgian suffered a thigh injury in pre-season, and made his delayed debut for the club off the bench in the 3-2 win at home to Levante this weekend.

Hazard arrived as part of a huge summer of spending at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the former Chelsea man setting a new club transfer record of €101M.

However, despite playing less than 30 minutes in a Real Madrid shirt, the 28-year old recieved huge praise from the Spanish international.

Zinedine Zidane dismisses Champions League distractions

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has rubbished claims that his players were distracted by the Champions League during their 3-2 win over Levante.

Los Blancos stormed into a 3-0 first half lead, but allowed Paco Lopez's side back into the game after the break and ended the tie on the back foot as the visitors pushed for a draw at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, the Frenchman insisted the spectre of beginning their Champions League campaign this week was not on the players minds.

POST-MATCH: Real Madrid see off late fightback against Levante

Real Madrid survived a second half scare to edge past Levante with a 3-2 win at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Much of the pre-match attention was on a club debut for record signing Eden Hazard, however the Belgian had to make do with a place on the bench from the start in the Spanish capital.

Following a frantic start for both sides, Karim Benzema found the opener on 25 minutes, nodding home Dani Carvajal's swing cross from the right.

Eden Hazard is named amongst Real Madrid substitutes for their clash with Levante.

The Belgian is yet to feature for his new side due to a pre-season injury, and he is expected to make his first appearance in front of an expectant Santiago Bernabeu crowd.

Zinedine Zidane makes three changes with Marcelo, James Rodriguez and Vinicius Jr. replacing Ferland Mendy, Luka Jovic and the suspended Gareth Bale. 

Levante boss Paco Lopez only makes one change from the side that beat Real Valladolid 2-0 last weekend, with Oscar Duarte coming in for Roger.

Nottingham Forest land Levante defender Chema

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Levante defender Chema Rodriguez for an undisclosed fee, it has been confirmed.

The 27-year-old has signed a two-year contract at the City Ground having made 44 appearances for Levante across the past two campaigns.

Having started his career in the youth system at Atletico Madrid, Chema moved to Alcorcon in 2013 and spent three years at the Segunda club before his move to the Valencia-based side.

Levante confirm Oscar Duarte signing

Levante have confirmed the signing of Oscar Duarte on a free transfer.

The 30-year old was released in June by Espanyol, after three seasons at the Catalan side, and had looked set for a return to his native Costa Rican, before Paco Lopez swooped for his services.

Despite never being first choice for Espanyol, he represents an experienced option for Levante for the season ahead, with Lopez looking to improve his defensive options for 2019-20.

Borja Mayoral 'doesn't know Real Madrid future' after Levante move

Borja Mayoral admits he does not know his long-term future after joining Levante on a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid.

The 22-year-old had been on loan with the Valencia-based side but he netted just three goals across 29 appearances in La Liga last campaign.

Levante have been keen on a deal but it had appeared certain he would join Real Sociedad, but they were said to prefer a permanent deal but were not prepared to pay his €15m asking price.
