Watford speak to former Athletic Club Bilbao boss Jose Angel Ziganda

Premier League club Watford reportedly spoke to former Athletic Bilbao boss Jose Angel Ziganda over their vacant managerial position.

It comes after the English side sacked boss Quique Sanchez Flores - who replaced fellow Spaniard Javi Gracia earlier this season - this weekend.

Sky Sports report that the club - based just to the north of London - spoke to Ziganda, who coached Athletic in the 2017/18 campaign, but are no longer in discussions.

German champions Bayern Munich hold an interest in landing Athletic Club Bilbao defender Unai Nunez, say reports.

Injuries to Bayern defenders Niklas Süle and Lucas Hernandez - signed from Atletico Madrid this summer - mean the Bavarian giants have targeted the Basque defender, according to German outlet Spox.com.

Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon linked to Real Madrid

Real Madrid have identified Athletic Club Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon as a possible signing in 2020, according to reports.

The 22-year-old has been first choice at the Basque giants this season ahead of Iago Herrerin and is said to have a €50m release clause in his current contract.

Simon has been a regular for the Spain Under-21 squads in recent years and helped the side to this summer’s European Championships title and is seen as one of the most promising goalkeepers in La Liga.

Arsenal, Everton look to Athletic Bilbao defender Unai Nunez

Premier League clubs Arsenal and Everton are both interested in landing Athletic Club Bilbao defender Unai Nunez, say reports.

The promising defender, who has been at the club since he was a seven-year-old, last penned a deal at San Mames in October 2017 which Marca reported to have a €30m release clause attached and will run through until 2022.

That contract was signed just one month after Nunez made his first team debut for Los Leones and he has subsequently featured 53 times for the Basque giants.

RFEF criticise VAR in Athletic Bilbao-Valencia clash

The Spanish FA (RFEF) has launched an attack on VAR - following controversy in the weekend game between Athletic Bilbao and Valencia.

Valencia midfielder Denis Cheryshev scored the winner in a 1-0 victory at San Mames, however the goal was only confirmed following a lengthy consultation with VAR.

The video assistant referee ruled no offside against Moi Gomez in the build up to the goal, and the RFEF has requested an investigation into VAR provider Mediapro.
