Eder Militao suffers freak injury in Athletic Bilbao draw

Real Madrid defender Eder Militao suffered a bizarre eye injury in the 0-0 draw to Athletic Bilbao, the club has confirmed.

The Brazilian international has only played a bit part role for Zinedine Zidane's side so far this season, following his summer move fom Porto, with the clash against Gaizka Garitano's side his sixth La Liga appearance of 2019-20.

However the 21-year old was withdrawn on 57 minutes after being caught in the face by Bilbao striker Kenan Kodro's hand.

Zinedine Zidane looks for positives after Athletic Bilbao draw

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane refused to be downbeat following their 0-0 draw at home to Athletic Bilbao.

The result means Los Blancos end 2019 on the back on three consecutive draws, against Valencia, Barcelona and now Gaizka Gariatano's side.

However, despite admitting to his frustrations at full time, the Frenchman praised the efforts of his players, after a difficult run of games in the last two weeks.

Thibaut Courtois: Athletic Bilbao draw leaves a bad taste

Real Madrid goal keeper Thibaut Courtois was left frustrated as Los Blancos ended 2019 with a 0-0 draw at home to Athletic Bilbao.

The hosts had plenty of chances to score, but a combination of poor finishing and an excellent performance from Courtois opposite number Unai Simon, means they now trail Barcelona heading into 2020.

Zinedine Zidane's side end the calendar year with three successive La Liga draws, with just one goal scored, and the Belgian international highlighted their issues in front of goal in recent games.

Real Madrid have signed off 2019 with a goalless draw at home to Athletic Bilbao. 

Zinedine Zidane's side will begin 2020 by trailing Barcelona by two points at the top of the La Liga table. 

Los Blancos recorded a second successive blank, following their 0-0 draw at the Camp Nou in El Clasico. 

The hosts created a hatful of chances in the first half, with Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos and Vinicius Junior all denied by Bilbao keeper Unai Simon.

Real Madrid host Athletic Bilbao in their final La Liga of 2019, where a win will see them start 2020 level at the top of La Liga with rivals Barcelona.

Premier League club Watford reportedly spoke to former Athletic Bilbao boss Jose Angel Ziganda over their vacant managerial position.

It comes after the English side sacked boss Quique Sanchez Flores - who replaced fellow Spaniard Javi Gracia earlier this season - this weekend.

Sky Sports report that the club - based just to the north of London - spoke to Ziganda, who coached Athletic in the 2017/18 campaign, but are no longer in discussions.
