Atletico Madrid hit by injuries for Valencia clash

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has confirmed he will be without three first team players for today's clash with Valencia.

Los Rojiblancos welcome Albert Celedas' side to the Estadio Metropolitano, on the back of a six game unbeaten run in all competitions.

However they will be without Vitolo, Stefan Savic and Ivan Saponjic for the game, with Simeone confirming that Spanish international Vitolo could return for their midweek Champions League game with Bayer Leverkusen.

Valencia defender Gabriel Paulista has revealed he would be interested in a call up to the Spain national team.

The former Arsenal centre back is a household name in La Liga, following spells with Villarreal, and now Los Che, however he has never been called up by his native Brazil for international duty.

Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix (pictured) and Barcelona’s teenage wonderkid Ansu Fati are on the 20-player shortlist for the 2019 Golden Boy award.

There are a total of seven Spain-based players on the list including Real Madrid’s Brazilian duo Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes, Valencia pair Kang-in Lee and Ferran Torres along with goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, on loan at Real Valladolid from Madrid.

Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno has admitted he came close to joining Atletico Madrid this summer before a move broke down.

A multitude of reports in summer claimed a deal was close while a report from August in Marca claimed Atleti ‘were certain’ the move will be processed and it just a matter of time until there is official confirmation.

Midfielder Alvaro Medran joins Chicago Fire

MLS side Chicago Fire have completed the signing of Spanish midfielder Alvaro Medran, whose former clubs include Real Madrid and Valencia.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Rayo Vallecano from Valencia - and netted three goals across 21 appearances for the Vallecas-based side.

However, his Los Che contract expired this year and he has now penned a two-year contract with the United States club, who he will be registered for from January 2020 onwards.

Valencia request media blackout on protest

Valencia officials have requested that Spanish media outlets do not broadcast fan protests against the club, Onda Cero.

It is claimed that senior officials of Los Che have made the request to Mediapro - the company who broadcast Spanish football in the nation - do not include any coverage of the protests.

Valencia have claimed their president Anil Murthy has received death threats and they have reported the matter to the police.

Murthy is an increasingly unpopular figure among the club’s support due to a series of power battles that have been played out in recent months.

There have been fractions among the hierarchies of the club with club owner Peter Lim and Murthy having a high-profile fallout with former Coach Marcelino Garcia Toral and general manager Mateu Alemany.

Former Barcelona general manager Pep Segura set for Valencia

Former Barcelona general manager Pep Segura is tipped to replace Mateu Alemany in the position at Valencia, according to reports.

Segura (pictured right, alongside former Blaugrana vice-president Jordi Mestre, left, and Abidal, centre) is currently not employed in football after leaving the Camp Nou in January.

The Catalan press have been vehement in their criticism of the work of Segura, with Mestre said to be the individual to offer the strongest defence but both men have now exited the Spanish champions.
