Former Valencia boss Marcelino Garcia Toral has been in London to hold talks with Arsenal, report Cadena Cope.

Marcelino was sacked at Los Che in September despite consecutive top four finishes for the club, alongside guiding the side to their first trophy in 11 years - beating Barcelona in May’s Copa del Rey final.

The Spanish FA are facing embarrassment on their revamped Supercopa with multiple TV companies not bidding to win the broadcast rights.

The three major broadcasting companies for Spanish football - RTVE, Mediaset and Atresmedia - have all confirmed they will not bid to show the competition, which controversially will be staged in Saudi Arabia.

Valencia must make a profit of €40m in player sales ahead of 30 June to balance their books, according to Marca.

The report adds that it is the third successive year in which Los Che are required to meet such a demand - with the sale of Joao Cancelo to Juventus in 2018 and goalkeeper Neto to Barcelona the following year meeting the threshold.

Spain's top scorer David Villa to retire this year

David Villa - Spain’s all-time record international goalscorer - has confirmed his retirement from football this year.

The former Barcelona striker - who scored 12 goals in 24 appearances for Japanese club Vissel Kobe this season - will end a 19-year career, in which he won the 2010 World Cup and 2008 European Championship with his country.

“I wanted to retire from football, not be forced to retire,” Villa said.

Real Betis to replace Valencia in Spanish Supercopa?

Real Betis may replace Valencia in the newly created Spanish Supercopa, according to a report in Diario Sport.

It is claimed by the report that Los Che supremos Peter Lim and Anil Murthy are angry at the economic distribution of the tournament and are considering withdrawing their club.

It was announced on Monday that the four-team tournament would be played in Saudi Arabia this January with Valencia pitted against Real Madrid.
