Lyon are hopeful of securing the loan return of Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz in January, according to Diario AS.

The Madrid outlet cites reports from France newspaper L’Equipe claiming Mariano - formerly of Lyon - and Hatem Ben Arfa are two prime January targets for the Ligue 1 side.

The Dominican-born striker has been involved in just one matchday squad for Los Blancos - the defeat at Real Mallorca earlier in the campaign - but he was an unused substitute.

The Frenchman’s last contract extension came two years ago and his current deal at the club is due to expire in the summer of 2021.

It is said that the new deal will extend the current contract by at least a further 12 months, although Madrid’s idea was to push it through until 2023.

Jose Reyes' son wins La Liga Promises tournament with Real Madrid

The son of former Real Madrid striker Jose Reyes has won the La Liga Promises competition with the clubs U13 side.

Reyes, who was tragically killed in a car accident earlier this year, made over 300 La Liga appearances across spells at hometown club Sevilla, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Espanyol, and his son looks set for a bright future.

Jose Reyes Jnr scored an impressive ten goals in Real Madrid five game run to the final in the underage tournament in the United Arab Emirates, and was subsequently awarded the competitions MVP award after the game.
