Real Madrid: Injured Karim Benzema out of Spanish Supercopa

Karim Benzema has been ruled out of the Spanish Supercopa in Saudi Arabia due to a leg injury, Real Madrid have confirmed.

Benzema, who turned 32 in December, has been in a rich vein of form over the course of the past 18 months - he netted 30 goals in total last season and already has 16 in just 24 appearances this season.

Of Algerian descent, the frontman has emerged as the most important and in-form player for Madrid since the €100m sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus in the summer of 2018.

Jermaine Pennant: Real Madrid agreed to sign me, but instead I went to Portsmouth

Former winger Jermaine Pennant has revealed Real Madrid agreed to sign him in January 2009 but he joined Portsmouth instead.

Pennant played 13 league matches for Portsmouth without scoring a goal and he was not offered a new contract by Liverpool, his parent club at the time, following his return.

That allowed him to finally move to Spanish football as he joined Real Zaragoza who were then in La Liga and despite making 26 appearances that season, he failed to score a goal and left the club the following year to join Stoke City.

Valencia have confirmed that striker Rodrigop Moreno will miss their Spanish Supercopa trip to Saudi Arabai next week.
