Real Madrid offer Mariano and Brahim Diaz to Espanyol

Real Madrid have offered out-of-favour duo Mariano Diaz and Brahim Diaz to Espanyol, according to a report in Diario Sport.

It is claimed that the relationship between both clubs is strong with a host of Madrid players joining Espanyol in recent years, including Lucas Vazquez, Marco Asensio and Mario Hermoso.

Espanyol respects sentence of Spain's Supreme Court

Espanyol have released a statement of political neutrality following the imprisonment of nine Catalan independence leaders.

The club has reiterated its status as a ‘purely sporting entity’ and has not commented on the decision, handed down by Spain’s Supreme Court on Monday although they have called for more political dialogue.

Espanyol appoint ex Sevilla boss Pablo Machin

Espanyol have been appointed former Sevilla boss Pablo Machin after dismissing David Gallego, the club have confirmed.

Machin was famed for guiding Girona to their first ever promotion to the top-flight in 2017 and subsequently led them to a top-half finish using his 3-5-2 formation.

David Gallego set for Espanyol dismissal

Espanyol will fire manager David Gallego later this week according to reports in Mundo Deportivo.

The Catalan newspaper has confirmed rumours that Gallego will be relieved of his position by club president Chen Yansheng in the coming days, following a poor start to the 2019-20 season.

Gallego took over the role at the RCE Stadium in the summer, joining from relegated Huesca, after fans favourite Rubi opted to move on to Real Betis.

Espanyol consider sacking boss David Gallego

Espanyol officials are discussing the future of under-fire Coach David Gallego following Sunday’s defeat at Real Mallorca.

The 2-0 loss left the Catalan club second from bottom in La Liga with just one victory and five points from their opening eight rounds of action.

The result was particularly damaging as it means Mallorca have now leapfrogged Gallego’s side in the standings and only Leganes - who are yet to win this campaign - are below Espanyol.

Sevilla, Getafe and Espanyol all recorded Europa League victories in an impressive night for Spanish sides in the competition.

Javier Hernandez’s first half goal was enough for Sevilla to earn a 1-0 win at home to APOEL Nicosia and put them in control of Group A - a victory which was their 100th in European competition.

Espanyol recorded just their second win in nine matches in all competitions as they triumphed 2-0 at CSKA Moscow to ease the pressure on under-fire boss David Gallego.

Europa League group stage draw confirmed

Sevilla, Getafe and Espanyol have all discovered their group stage opponents of this season’s Europa League competition.

Sevilla - who have won the competition a record five times - have been drawn along with APOEL from Cyprus, Azerbaijani champions Qarabag and Luxembourg’s Dudelange.

Getafe, who have previously reached the quarter-finals of the competition, have been paired with Basel, Krasnodar and Trabzonspor of Turkey.
