Barcelona manager Quique Setien offers no excuses for Valencia defeat

New Barcelona boss Quique Setien was pragmatic in defeat, as Barcelona slipped to a 2-0 loss at Valencia.

Setien’s side could now end the weekend three points behind rivals Real Madrid in the La Liga title race, if Zinedine Zidane’s side win at Real Valladolid tomorrow.

However, despite losing his first game in charge of the Catalan giants, the former Real Betis coach had no complaints about the final result.

“The reality is that we were not good,” he told reporters from Marca at full time.

Barcelona slip to first defeat under Quique Setien at Valencia

Barcelona have lost ground to La Liga title rival Real Madrid, following a 2-0 defeat at Valencia.

New manager Quique Setien tasted defeat for the first time as La Blaugrana boss, as a second half own goal from Jordi Alba, and a superb strike from Ferran Torres, handed them a first La Liga loss since November 2019.

Zinedine Zidane’s side can now move ahead of them win a win against Real Valladolid tomorrow, and open up a three-point gap at the top of the table.

Carles Perez set for Barcelona exit amid Rodrigo Moreno links

Barcelona striker Carles Perez is reportedly on his way out of the club during the January transfer window.

The 21-year old has slipped down behind Ansu Fati in the pecking order at the Camp Nou, and despite a long-term injury to Luis Suarez, he his first team opportunities remain limited in Catalonia.

The La Masia graduate broke into the first team under Ernesto Valverde last season, with a debut at the back end of the campaign.

Neto ruled out of Barcelona’s clash with Valencia

Barcelona goalkeeper Neto will miss their weekend La Liga trip to Valencia due to an ankle injury.

The Brazilian suffered the problem in training earlier this week, and he will now miss his return to the Mestalla as a La Blaugrana player.

Manager Quique Setien has recalled Dutch international Frenkie De Jong, after he missed the former Real Betis boss’ first game in charge through suspension.

Copa del Rey Round of 16 draw made

The Copa del Rey round of 16 draw has been conducted and it will see Cultural Leonesa take on holders Valencia after their upset last time out.

In what was the big shock of the last round, the Segunda Division B side defeated Atletico Madrid 2-1 after extra-time on Thursday night.

Their reward for that win is a home tie against Valencia as they'll look to try and claim another major scalp by defeating the current holders.

The joint-La Liga leaders were dealt an injury blow this month after Luis Suarez underwent knee surgery.

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has revealed only the 'small details' have changed under Quique Setien.

The reigning La Liga champions opted to part ways with Ernesto Valverde earlier this month, and appointed the former Real Betis Coach in his place.

Since taking charge, Setien has picked up two wins in two games after seeing off Granada and Ibiza in the league and Copa del Rey respectively.

While Barcelona have dominated possession in those two outings, De Jong has revealed that there hasn't been major changes under Setien so far.
