Valencia vs Rayo Vallecano

Ernesto Valverde makes his Mestalla debut as Valencia boss against out of sorts Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

Valverde has won his first two games in charge, both away to Osasuna, but will have to work hard to win over a crowd who were made to endure a 5-2 defeat last time Los Che played at home.

“I believe the fans are eager to see a change in the level of our commitment,” suggested young midfielder Dani Parejo. “The fans want to see a team that give it their all and we are willing to do it.”

Rayo are only two points behind 10th placed Valencia but have lost three of their last four. They can call upon secret weapon Alejandro Dominguez though, who has a score to settle against his old club.

“The game will be special for the time that I spent there, most of all for that. Valencia did not give me the continuity I needed. Now I am convinced, with the mindset of knowing what I have to do for Rayo.”

Kick off: Sunday December 16, 4.00 (BST)
