Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad

Real Madrid hope to provide at least a temporary distraction from Iker Casillas-gate with victory over Real Sociedad.

Scarcely anything else has been talked about in Madrid since Jose Mourinho’s decision to drop Casillas for the 3-2 defeat to Malaga before Christmas. The incident has further reduced Mourinho’s chances of remaining at the club beyond the summer and soured what was already a difficult season, with Los Blancos 16 points behind League leaders Barcelona.

“Admittedly, to win the League will be difficult, but it is not impossible,” said Sergio Ramos. “We have to keep fighting, believing and winning and when better to do that than on Sunday against Real Sociedad.”

La Real will fancy their chances of a shock result having avoided defeat in their last four away games and climbed up to 7th.

“Are we confident?” pondered midfielder Xabi Prieto. “That’s saying something to play against Madrid. They are a big team. We come with confidence, yes, but also respect.”

Kick off: Sunday January 6, 4.00 (BST)
