Osasuna vs Rayo Vallecano

Paco Jemez labelled his Rayo Vallecano side as ‘children’ in their performance against Osasuna, as Javi Gracia relished the morale boost.

Wednesday evening saw early goals from Oier and Oriol Riera hand Los Rojillos an early advantage before the quarter-hour mark, before Roberto Torres put the game out of Rayo’s sight.

Miguel Angel de las Cuevas’ second half red card invited the Madrid outfit back into the tie through Alejandro Galvez’s consolation, but it was not enough to prevent their Coach’s temper.

“We said in the dressing room afterwards, we are making mistakes that are improper for this level,” Jemez mused to reporters.

“I see a team of young children competing against a team of adults. Our mistakes are making it complicated to achieve results.

“Until we are more intense and focused, we cannot do anything against any team when we continue to make mistakes.

“This is not the game that we expected and much less in trying to turnaround a result as complicated as that after just 13 minutes.

“Osasuna have made the most of our mistakes. There is only one Rayo, with very clear defects that have costs us dearly and with strength.

“At this time, our mistakes are outweighing our virtues.”

Javi Gracia reflected on how his Pamplona outfit’s win saw them move above Rayo in the table and out of the relegation zone.

“This gives us an injection of morale after the defeat to Sevilla,” considered Coach Gracia afterwards.

“It is a step forward in our daily struggle. I am very happy, there was dedication, commitment and fight, values that our fans look for.

“The key has been a very high level of pressure, which has enabled us to win the game comfortably and with relative ease.”
