Real Mallorca and Athletic Bilbao almost appear to be outdoing each other in terms of sheer dysfunction going into this game.
Mallorca haven’t won since September, are just a point above the relegation zone and were thrashed 5-0 by Sevilla in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday.
“We’re all in a mess but we will raise ourselves for the game on Saturday against Athletic and go forward as we can,” said a beleaguered Joaquin Caparros post-match.
Athletic are 14th and their League form has shown slight signs of improvement but they suffered an even more humiliating midweek Copa result when they were eliminated by Segunda Division B outfit Eibar.
“I am sad and unfit to offer explanations,” sighed trainer Marcelo Bielsa. “It was not an unjustified elimination.”
Kick off: Saturday December 15, 5.00 (BST)
