Malaga vs Celta Vigo

Carlos Mourino has outlined Celta Vigo’s ‘total confidence’ in Coach Luis Enrique and praised his sense of sacrifice for the club.

The Coach indicated after defeat on Monday evening at home to Levante that he would step aside if the Galicians, who are now second bottom of La Liga, believed it was right.

However, the club’s President has looked to offer his encouragement to the 43-year-old to continue as they prepare to face Malaga on matchday 10.

“Obviously we are concerned about the results we are obtaining, but we would be more concerned if we saw that the team was not competitive,” Mourino has commented this week.

“The confidence in the Coach is total, the same as at the beginning of the season.

“From the beginning he has said that if someone though he was not the ideal Coach then he would have no problem in stepping aside, and so to keep thinking that is something we are grateful for.

“Luis Enrique does not surprise me for his collaboration with the club. His signing to Celta was achieved thanks to his generosity and now he is proving it again as Coach of the club.

“January transfer market? We have to wait a few days more before talking to the Coach and deciding what positions need strengthening.

“Except for the game against Getafe and in the first halves against Betis and Atletico Madrid, the team has been competing well. And with that level of competitiveness, the results will come.”

This is Celta’s worst start to a Primera Division campaign for 70 years and, in failing to win their opening five games at home, their worst start to a season at Balaidos.
