Granada vs Espanyol

Javier Aguirre has no time to settle in as Espanyol boss as he is parachuted straight into a relegation six pointer against Granada.

The Mexican officially took the reins on Thursday, succeeding Mauricio Pochettino, who was put of his misery after Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Getafe left Los Pericos bottom with just nine points.

“Results will strengthen the spirit,” said Aguirre at his unveiling. “We must add, add, add points, so the game against Granada this weekend is very important.”

He will certainly look at this game as a winnable one as Granada are just two points and positions ahead.

“In so far as our play, we have done everything, but there has been more dark than light,” stated their tactician Juan Antonio Anquela. “So I hope that the situation is reversed, because it is the results that raise your spirits.”
