Atletico Madrid vs Real Valladolid

Atletico Madrid are buoyant after more European success but Real Valladolid could leapfrog them with a win at Vicente Calderon.

Atletico are fifth with seven points and a game in hand, Valladolid ninth with six.

Falcao, Arda Turan and several other first teamers will return for the hosts, whose Coach Diego Simeone defended his decision to field a weakened side in the 3-0 win over Hapoel Tel Aviv last night.

“I’ve never liked using regular starters and substitutes. They are all football players, representing a club, we want to be competitive and to have a team that always knows what is wanted.”

Valladolid have lost two on the bounce, but boss Miroslav Djukic is defiant.

“We can beat any team. Atleti are a good side, with quality in attack and defence, but we have to go to the Calderon and go for it.”

Kick off: Sunday, September 23, 5.00 (UK time)
