Atletico Madrid vs Levante

Diego Simeone has revealed that Atletico Madrid’s secret to recent success is on approaching each game as if it were the last.

Los Colchoneros are marking two years under El Cholo by holding level at the top of La Liga with Barcelona and having progressed to the Last 16 of the Champions League unbeaten.

The capital club though, face Levante this weekend hoping to leapfrog the Blaugrana into the top spot.

“Our obligation is to go game by game. We are looking only at the present,” Simeone has considered to AS, on the team’s prospects heading into 2014.

“We know that the path is complicated and that at any moment it can become difficult. We live each match as if it was our last, that is the secret.

“The Champions League is very nice, it is much more competitive than La Liga.

“There are many teams that can win it, and the League, in the final stage, has shown that it can only be won by Real Madrid and Barcelona.

“This is a job that we have been doing for two years. Everything goes through the block, the work of the players.

“The defence, for example, is not just the goalkeeper and back-line, but it is through the whole team. Everyone is organised with intensity, aggression, work…

“Overall, this year has been extraordinary. The high point was the Cup final at the Bernabeu.

“The team performed and realised at the same time that we could improve,”
