Athletic Bilbao vs Villarreal

Sergio Asenjo has suggested that a run of results in Villarreal’s next few games should have them dreaming of more than just survival this term.

The Yellow Submarine have made a strong start to life back in La Liga and have spent the October international break fourth in the table.

For their goalkeeper, Monday evening’s trip out to Athletic Bilbao is the start of a run of fixtures that may define where the team’s season really goes.

“Let’s take it step by step, but if we really do add positive results in these next few weeks then we will have a greater chance of fighting for something,” Asenjo has enthused this week.

“We hope to maintain the level we have shown so far and to do so against these teams that are very strong.

“It would be great to win at the new San Mames, it is extra motivation to try to be the first away team to win there.

“Against Athletic it will be an intense game back and forth and a lot of pressure for the 90 minutes. We know that there are games like this.

“They have the motivation to push forward in the table and will pressure us in playing at home.”
