Athletic Bilbao vs Malaga

Athletic Bilbao and Malaga enter this game with contrasting emotions after midweek European action.

Whereas Malaga romped to a convincing 3-0 win over Zenit St. Petersburg in the Champions League, Bilbao were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Israelis Hapoel Kiryat Shmona in the Europa League.

Marcelo Bielsa was however pleased with Fernando Llorente, the wantaway striker who made his first start of the season.

“Llorente had 10 chances to score and that, for a striker, is a convincing amount. He produced more than what he converted.

“Llorente’s situation was never an obstacle to him playing and he did it naturally. As I thought, it didn’t affect him.”

Malaga's new signing Manuel Iturra is confident the Andalusians will prevail at San Mames.

“They are a very strong team that press in all parts of the pitch, and they are very strong at their own ground. But Malaga will pick up three points.”

Kick off: Sunday, September 23, 6.50 (UK time)
