Real Betis confirm loan deal for Barcelona’s Carles Alena

Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena has joined Real Betis on loan until the end of the season. 

The Andalucian club confirmed the move via their official Twitter account today, with the Spanish U21 international immediately joining up with his new club after the La Liga winter break.

There is no reported purchase option for Real Betis at the end of the 2019-20 campaign, however they have agreed to pay Alena's full salary for the next six months. 

The 21-year old has been consistently linked with a move away from the Camp Nou this season, with La Liga rivals Getafe and Valencia also reported to be interested in a loan move for him.

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has consistently stated that Alena will be a future star for the club, however he acknowledged the player's frustration at playing just four La Liga appearances so far this season.

The Catalan giants are not reported to be in the market for any new players during the January transfer window, however there could be exits, with Arturo Vidal, Ivan Rakitic and Jean-Clair Todibo all linked with moves away.
