Real Sociedad cause Twitter storm with ‘fake’ Martin Odegaard transfer story

Real Sociedad have caused a storm on Twitter over the fake 'revealing' of Martin Odegaard moving to Manchester City.

The La Liga side published a press release via their official website and social media channels, stating that the Norwegian international would  be joing Pep Guardiola's side on loan until the end of the season.

However despite tricking thousands on social media, plenty of La Liga fans were quick to spot the story as 'fake news', based on December 28th being the Spanish equivalent of the UK's April Fools Day.

Odegaard is currently on a season long loan deal at the Anoeta Stadium from Real Madrid – so the Basque side would have no control over his movement – and he is likely to return to Los Blancos in the summer.

Zinedine Zidane has consistently stated his pleasure with Odegaard's progress under Imanol Alguacil so far this season, and he will create a first team place for him ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.

However, club from across Europe are reportedly prepared to test Real Madrid's resolve, particularly if ZIdane cannot guarantee him regular first team football, with Manchester City reported to be one of his admirers, alongside Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
