Barcelona: US youth international Konrad de la Fuente wants Hertha Berlin move

Barcelona talks of extending the contract of Konrad De La Fuente have reportedly broken down as the player prefers Hertha Berlin.

Last month, a report in El Mundo Deportivo claimed the 18-year-old is set to pen a new contract at the Catalan giants ahead of being promoted to the club’s B team for next season.

However, ESPN now say that the player has now got cold feet on the Blaugrana’s offer – a three-year deal with the option of a further two – and wants to join Hertha instead, who are coached by former US boss Jurgen Klinsmann.

The teenager, who was born in Miami to parents from Haiti, is said to be highly thought of by the leaders in Barcelona’s youth academy, which is headed by Patrick Kluivert.

The US youth international – who impressed at the recent Under-20 World Cup – has netted five goals in 11 appearances for Barca this year, as outlined by ESPN.

De La Fuente is the only Blaugrana player to be included in a list of 50 of the world’s most promising talents this year, published by British media outlet The Guardian.

He was set to join fellow young talents Ilaix Moriba and Ansu Fati in extending their deals at the Camp Nou in recent times, but the Catalan giants would be entitled to a €700k development fee should he move to the Bundesliga club.
