Atletico Madrid star Diego Costa sets Anfield fitness target

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has reportedly set the club's Champions League tie with Liverpool as his comeback game from injury.

The Spanish international has missed the last month of action for Diego Simeone's side after undergoing surgery on a long standing hip problem, and he has only just returned to light training.

However, according to reports in Marca, the 31-year old is determined to be fit in time for their last 16 second leg away at the defending European champions, which would be exactly four months since his last appearance for Los Rojiblancos.

The extended absence of Costa through injury, alongside the lack of goals from summer signing Joao Felix, has seen Simeone linked with a January move for an experienced striker, to ease the burden on Alvaro Morata.

However, Simeone has remained tight lipped on the subject and may opt to stick with his current squad until the start of the 2020-21 campaign.
