Former Villarreal and Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan has been appointed as the new boss at Uruguayan club Penarol.
The Uruguayan, now aged 40, spent seven years in Spanish football across stints with Villarreal and Atletico Madrid.
In his first season in Spanish football, he scored 25 league goals and won the Pichichi award as the most prolific player in La Liga.
Forlan again scooped the award after joining Atleti – becoming the first player to win the Pichichi Trophy twice since Brazilian striker Ronaldo Nazario in the 1996–97 and 2003–04 campaigns.
The former Manchester United striker scored in Atletico's 2010 Europa League final victory against Fulham, before moving to Italian side Inter the following year.
Penarol are Forlan’s boyhood club where he started his youth career and also made 30 appearances as a first-teamer during the 2015-16 campaign, as cited by Diario AS.
They are the third-highest Copa Libertadores winner with five titles to their name.
