James Rodriguez returns for Real Madrid after injury

James Rodriguez has returned to Real Madrid first-team training following an injury and could play against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

He has not played a game since October 22 when he appeared for the final 12 minutes of the trip to Galatasaray in the Champions League.

The playmaker sprained the internal ligament of the right knee in mid-November on international duty but is now available for selection again, as reported by Diario AS.

The Colombian international had been heavily linked with a permanent exit from Madrid this summer with both Napoli and Atletico Madrid said to be the leading candidates.

James returned to Madrid this summer following a two-year loan spell at the Bavarian club having started just 13 Bundesliga matches this campaign and is said to want more regular first-team football.

The former Porto and Monaco star spent three seasons at Los Blancos, helping them to two European titles, but started just 13 La Liga games in his final campaign.
