Neymar: Why would I want to leave PSG?

Neymar has played down suggestions he will leave Paris Saint-Germain to return to Spain: “Why would I want to leave? Today I am a Parisian.”

The former Santos forward left the Camp Nou for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017 for a world record €222m fee, but reports continue to suggest he may be open to a departure from the Parisians.

Neymar has continually been linked with a return to Spain since his departure with the Catalan giants and Real Madrid said to be keen on a future transfer.

However, despite a prolonged saga of multiple reports claiming that the clubs were in negotiations and a deal was on the verge of completion, no move ever materialised.

“Why would I want to leave PSG? Today I am a Parisian and I give 100%,” Neymar told France Football, as cited by Marca.

“I will give everything on the pitch to win with PSG. I never wanted to hurt anyone, but in my head it is that if not you're happy, you have to go.

“At Barcelona you live football with more intensity – I learned a lot and that's why I felt so good there.

“I left because I wanted new goals. It had nothing to do with winning the Golden Ball or being on the same team as Messi.”

Neymar has been derailed in the French capital by injuries – he has been involved in just 46 of a possible 95 Ligue 1 matches since his switch in the summer of 2017.
