Karim Benzema sets La Liga title target ahead of El Clasico

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has thrown down a La Liga title challenge ahead of their crunch El Clasico.

Zinedine Zidane's head to the Camp Nou level on points with league leaders Barcelona, after Benzema netted a 96th minute equaliser away at Valencia.

The former French international is in excellent form ahead of the trip to Catalonia, and he is confident of a positive result against their old enemy on December 18.

"I am playing with confidence at the moment, and that has helped me to score more goals," he told reporters from Marca in his post-match interview.

"I want to win La Liga this season, that is my target."

"I will help the team in any way I can, with goals and leadership in the coming games."

"It will be difficult to play away at the Camp Nou, but hopefully we can win."

"It is always the most important game of the season."

The 31-year old has 16 goals in 21 games in all competitions so far this season, however he will be looking to improve his record against Barcelona, with no goal in his last 10 appearances against them.
