Zinedine Zidane hails Real Madrid’s spirit in Valencia draw

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has praised the spirit and mentality of his side, as they secured a late 1-1 draw at Valencia.

Karim Benzema scored a vital 96th minute equaliser at the Estadio Mestalla, as Real Madrid head to Barcelona on December 18, second in the La Liga table on goal difference.

Los Blancos struggled to break down the home side, but Zidane praised their determination in the closing stages, ahead of an important week at the club.

"This is an important result," he told reporters from Marca in his post-match interview.

"We gave it everything, and deserved to score a goal at the end."

"We got the draw because of the effort we put into the game."

"This is what Real Madrid are all about, we never give up."

"The players thought they could get a result, and they deserved it."

Zidane also praised goal keeper Thibaut Courtois, who made key saves either side of half time, before causing panic in the opposition panic with a header ahead of Benzema's equaliser.

"He decided himself to go up for the corner, and he showed the team's spirit by not giving up."
