Keylor Navas ‘does not understand’ Real Madrid exit

Goalkeeper Keylor Navas has confessed he does not understand the events which led to his exit from Real Madrid this summer.

The Costa Rican joined Paris Saint-Germain from Madrid earlier this year after helping Los Blancos to lift three Champions League titles.

Navas had been the regular goalkeeper for Los Blancos for three seasons before the club landed goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea.

Courtois pushed Navas – who moved to the Santiago Bernabeu from Levante in 2014 – out of the number one spot for Madrid, meaning that French champions PSG subsequently signed Navas.

The 32-year-old has now explained that he does not understand why Madrid wanted to replace him nor why his relationship with the club deteriorated over his final twelve months.

“With Zidane I have good experiences, he defended me many times and I thank him for the confidence he had in me,” Navas told El Chiringuito TV.

“Then there are things that happen, and I don't know why they happen, but they happen.

“I do not think that someone failed me, I suppose in Madrid they thought it was not my time to be there. And then in came a team that told me that they trusted me and wanted me.

“On my returning to the Bernabeu, I was going to go to the home changing room by mistake. I appreciate that later people would sing to me.

“I made my mistakes and people always supported me. I always remember the celebrations of the titles, when we went out one by one, the love the fans showed me was incredible.

“I always thought about what I would do when I was signed by a large team? Would I jump, cry or shout, I was always thinking about the future. I wanted to do everything at the same time.”
