Real Betis midfielder Sergio Canales has agreed a new contract with the club, extending his current deal until 2023.
The Spanish international, joined the Andalucian side in July 2018, after his contract with Real Sociedad expired, and he has established himself as a regular in the last season and a half.
The 27-year old initially signed a four year deal, however manager Rubi has now moved to tie his future to the club, by taking up the option of a 12 month extension.
Canales has previously been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, who were reportedly willing to pay his release clause of €40M ahead of the 2019'-20 campaign.
However there is no confirmation if the new deal includes a increase of his release clause, however it is widely reported to have been increased to €55M following his impressive performances at the Estadio Benito Villamarin.
