Manchester City want Pep Guardiola ‘for years to come’

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak is confident Pep Guardiola will continue at the club “for years to come.”

The former Barcelona boss has helped the Manchester club to back-to-back Premier League titles, amassing a remarkable 198 points across those two seasons.

The club won all four domestic trophies on offer last season – including the FA Cup and EFL Cup – but they are nine points off league leaders Liverpool so far this campaign.

There have been doubts that Guardiola, who is in his fourth season at the Etihad, may decide to leave the club next year if results continue to stagnate.

The 48-year-old, who previously achieved success at Bayern Munich, will see his current contract expire in the summer of 2021 and has recently indicated he will honour that agreement, should the club wish.

“Pep has been an incredible asset to this organisation,” the City chairman said, as cited by El Mundo Deportivo.

“We can speak about his managerial accomplishments for hours. But I think as a person, as an individual, as a friend, he’s been a core part of what we’ve accomplished here over the last three years.

“He’s very committed. We’re committed to him. You’ve seen his interview a couple of days ago. We have a great relationship. We have a great environment here.

“The people around him, the team we have in place today, the relationships I have with them, this is really an environment that’s conducive to success for both him and everyone involved in this organisation.

“So I’m very satisfied with his commitment and our commitment to him and I’m looking forward to the continuity of this for years to come.”
