Real Madrid: Karim Benzema world’s best striker – Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard believe Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema is the best striker in the world right now: “There is nobody better.”

Benzema, who turns 32 in December, has been in a rich vein of form over the course of the past 18 months – he netted 30 goals in total last season and already has 12 in just 16 appearances this season.

Of Algerian descent, the frontman has emerged as the most important and in-form player for Madrid since the €100m sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus in the summer of 2018.

His significance to the current team under Zinedine Zidane is demonstrated by his ever presence in attack and being favoured ahead of €60m summer signing Luka Jovic.

“Karim is the best striker in the world at the minute,” Hazard told an interview with Le Parisien, as cited by Marca.

“He scores goals and, he plays in the best club in the world. The France national team is already strong without Karim, but with him it would be even more.

“For us, the Belgians, it is better that they do not play Karim, because he is the best and there is nobody better.”

A report in Marca last week said Madrid are in discussions with striker Benzema to renew his contract until 2023.

The Frenchman’s last contract extension came two years ago and his current deal at the club is due to expire in the summer of 2021.
