Barcelona star Gerard Piques dismisses Davis Cup distraction claims

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has moved to end speculation that his business commitments are affecting his performances on the pitch.

Pique has attended the Davis Cup tennis tournament in Madrid in recent days, and there had been speculation that he would miss the weekend La Liga clash with Leganes.

However, the former Spanish international played a full 90 minutes at the Estadio Butarque, as Barcelona remained at the top of La Liga with a 2-1 win.

"I spoke to the manager about the situation," he told reporters from Marca in his post-match interview.

"It was a friendly chat, and he asked me about my plans for the week."

"My relationship with the manager is phenomenal, and my relationship with the club is fine."

"The rumours of problems come from outside of the club."

"It was tough to beat Leganes, and the important thing now is to win games."

Pique confirmed that he would be attending the David Cup final on November 24, with Spain facing Canada, as part of his role with Kosmos Tennis, who have revamped the tournament.

The 32-year old also confirmed that team mate Lionel Messi would have attended the final in Madrid, if Argentina had won their quarter final clash with Spain.
