Agent: Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira wanted in Spain

The agent of Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira hinted he is unhappy at the club with ‘clear interest’ from clubs in Spain.

Atletico Madrid were the one name directly name dropped by the agent, who admitted that Los Rojiblancos attempted to sign the Uruguayan international when he was previously at Italian side Sampdoria.

Napoli and Milan are two other clubs who have been linked with a move for the 23-year-old, who has started just four Premier League games to date this campaign.

Torreira joined the Gunners in a €30m deal from Serie A side Samp in the summer of 2018 but has long been linked with a move to La Liga due to his native Spanish.

“I don't want to name the teams out of respect, but I can tell you that Atletico had tried to take Lucas from Sampdoria two years ago,” agent Pablo Bentancur told Calciomercato, when asked about which teams may look to sign the midfielder.

“I must say that the change of role has penalised him sharply. He is no longer at ease and we hope that things can change.

“We have no problem with Arsenal but only words of thanks. Arsenal has allowed Lucas to compete in the Premier League, he has always been shown great confidence.

“Clearly there's interest for Torreira, especially from Spanish clubs, but I have never sat down with any club to talk about his transfer.

“This is because of the great respect we have for the Gunners and their general manager Raul Sanllhei.”

Torreira played 50 times in the 2018-19 campaign for the North London side, becoming a fans’ favourite and reaching the Europa League Final.
