Spain end Euro 2020 qualification with 5-0 Romania win

Spain ended their Euro 2020 qualification campaign on a high, with a 5-0 win over Romania at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Robert Moreno's side secured their place at next summer's competition back in October, but they ended 2019 with two convincing wins, after a 7-0 victory over Malta in Cadiz last week.

Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz opened his international goal scoring account after just five minutes, as he turned home Dani Carvajal's cross shot.

Villarreal forward Gerard Moreno netted his first Spain goal in the rout of Malta, and he scored twice before the break to put the game beyond Cosmin Contra's side.

The former Espanyol striker nodded home Santi Cazorla's short corner on 33 minutes, before tapping home Jose Gaya's cross two minutes before the break in Madrid.

The hosts made it 4-0 in added time in the first half, as Romania defender Adrian Rus turned a loose ball into his own net, as the visitors capitulated in defence.

Spain continued on the front foot after the break, with skipper Sergio Ramos and Alvaro Morata both missing chances to extend their lead to five.

However, Moreno's side were finally rewarded for their efforts with a fifth goal in added time.

Substitute Mikel Oyarzabal impressed after coming on for the closing stages, and he netted his third international goal of the year, with a 25 yard drive.
