Atletico Madrid: Nikola Kalinic to return from Roma

Atletico Madrid are reportedly set to recall striker Nikola Kalinic from a loan spell at Roma in the January transfer window.

Diario AS cite a report from Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport that the Italian club are willing to cut the striker’s loan spell short and instead redirect those finances towards Real Madrid’s out-of-favour forward Mariano Diaz.

Kalinic celebrates his 32nd birthday in January and probably won’t play again in 2019 due to a fracture at the top of the fibula, suffered last month.

He made only five appearances in a Giallorossi jersey, three in Serie A and two in the Europa League, for a grand total of 182 minutes of football but now return to the Spanish capital.

Los Rojiblancos may be light in attacking numbers with Diego Costa ruled out with an injury until February and needing reinforcements.

Kalinic may be the most logical option for Diego Simeone’s side, for whom he appeared 24 times last season but netted just four goals before returning to Serie A on a season-long loan deal.
