Real Madrid: James Rodriguez out for three weeks with knee injury

Real Madrid have confirmed playmaker James Rodriguez has suffered minor knee ligament damage and will be out for three weeks.

James sustained the injury on Thursday during a training session for the Colombian national team and missed their clash before Peru, before having the damage examined in Miami and then Madrid.

The statement from Los Blancos added the player had endured “a sprain to the internal ligament of his left knee,” and whilst no layoff was confirmed, an initial report from Diario AS of three weeks has now been repeated by several other media outlets.

James had only just returned to fitness after several weeks of inactivity due to physical problems in the Spanish capital, with this latest setback adding to the frustrations.

He has not played a game since October 22 when he appeared for the final 12 minutes of the trip to Galatasaray in the Champions League.

The 28-year-old has scored one goal in nine appearances for Zinedine Zidane’s this season following a loan spell at Bayern Munich and is expected to miss his team's next five games.
