Dani Olmo wants Euro 2020 spot with Spain

Dani Olmo has confirmed his intention to play at Euro 2020, after scoring on his international debut in the 7-0 hammering of Malta last night.

The Dinamo Zagreb midfielder came on in the second half, and marked his international bow with a goal just after, as Robert Moreno's side registered seven different scorers.

Moreno opted for a young team for the game in Cadiz, with qualification already assured, and the former Barcelona youth team player is hopeful he can secure a place in the final squad.

"I hope to play in the European Championship next summer," he told reporters from Marca in his post match interview.

"I am very proud to have been selected for this squad, and I will work hard to keep my place."

Olmo's performances for the Croatian side have caught the eye in recent months, and he confirmed after that Moreno placed his faith in him ahead of kick off.

"The manager told me that I would play."

"He said that I deserved to be here based on my performances, and to go and enjoy it."

"I want to be there next summer, and follow the examples of other Spanish midfields."

"If you look at the teams between 2008 and 2012, they were incredible.

"Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, David Silva, Sergi Busquets and Santi Cazorla, they were all so impressive."

Olmo's form in Croatia has also caught the eye of Premier League clubs, with Manchester United and Tottenham both widely reported to be reigniting their interest in him in January, after failing with bids in the summer.
