Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa ruled out for three months

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa is set to miss a minimum of three months of action with a herniated disc, report Marca.

The former Spain international was unable to feature in Wednesday’s training session for Los Rojiblancos due to back discomfort and subsequently underwent a scan, which showed he may need to be operated on due to the extent of the injury.

The Brazil-born striker has netted just seven La Liga goals in 42 appearances since his return to the club from Chelsea in January 2018 but has started eight league games this campaign.

It will not be until early next week that the exact path of Costa’s recovery will be decided, adds the report, but it is likely that he will be out of action until February at the earliest.

There had been fears that the striker could miss the remainder of the season but the expectations now are that he will be back for the final three months.
