Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes: Don’t compare me to Cristiano Ronaldo

Rodrygo Goes has rejected comparisons between himself and Cristiano Ronaldo, admitting he did not want ‘the pressure’ of such a claim.

Rodrygo netted a treble for Los Blancos in last week’s 6-0 win over Galatasaray in the Champions League and has netted two La Liga goals – against Osasuna and Leganes – in just two league starts for the club.

Cristiano Ronaldo netted a club record 450 goals for Madrid in just 438 matches for Madrid before leaving for Juventus in a €100m transfer in the summer of 2018.

Former Brazil international and Barcelona legend Rivaldo told Betfair, as cited by Cadena Cope: “Rodrygo Goes is helping Madrid get closer to the level they had at the time of Cristiano.”

However, Rodrygo has now responded in a press conference, as cited by Cadena Cope: “I don't want to take the pressure of replacing Cristiano.”

“I didn't expect everything to be so fast. Not even in my dreams when I was playing for Santos, (this year) is incredible.

“I talk a lot with Raul (Gonzalez, Castilla boss and Madrid legend) and he helps me with advice and his experience.”

The 18-year-old had starred with Santos in his native Brazil before joining Madrid this summer after the two club’s struck a €45m deal in 2018.
