Barcelona face Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semi finals

Barcelona will face Atletico Madrid in the semi finals of the 2019-20 Spanish Super Cup, with Real Madrid taking on Valencia.

The draw for the last four was performed at the RFEF headquarters in Madrid earlier today, ahead of the revamped competition, which will take place in Saudi Arabia in January 2020.

Each side had a representative at the draw, with Sergio Ramos, Sergio Busquets, Saul Niguez and Jose Gaya all in attendance in the Spanish capital.

The RFEF have come under major criticism for their decision to move the tournament outside of Spain, and change the format from a one game final to a four team structure.

There has also been negativity on the choice of Saudi Arabia as a host, however RFEF president Luis Rubiales used the draw to dismiss claims that it could be the start of more games being played outside of Spain, following rumours of La Liga games being played in the US.

Defending champions Barcelona will face Atletico Madrid on January 9th, with the winners facing either Real Madrid of Valencia, who play the day before.

The final will be on January 12, with all games scheduled to be played at the King Abdullah Stadium in Jeddah.
