Barcelona to appeal Lionel Messi yellow card against Celta Vigo

Barcelona are set to launch an appeal against Lionel Messi's yellow card in their 4-1 La Liga win over Celta Vigo.

Messi turned in a virtuoso performance against Oscar Garcia's side at the Camp Nou, netting a hat trick including two direct free kicks either side of the half time break.

However he was unhappy with referee Cuarda Fernandez's decision to caution him for a foul on midfielder Pape Cheikh in the 39th minute, from which Lucas Olaza netted Celta's equaliser from the resulting free kick.

Barcelona have no presented video footage of the incident to the authorities, showing Messi touched the ball before colliding with Cheikh, with a decision expected following a disciplinary committee meeting on Wednesday November 13.

The yellow card was Messi's first of the 2019-20 season, however the club want it removed on the grounds that the foul was accidental, according to reports in Marca.
