Zinedine Zidane in favour of Karim Benzema’s return to France team

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is open to forward Karim Benzema returning to the French national team for Euro 2020.

Benzema has not played for Les Bleus since a controversy involving team mate Mathieu Valbuena, and French boss Didier Deschamps recently stated that he did not see a way back for Benzema.

However his impressive form for Los Blancos so far this season has caught the eye, and Zidane would be willing to facilitate a return, should Deschamps change his mind.

"Benzema has always wanted to play for France," he was cited by Diario AS in his weekly press conference.

"To be honest, I do not know th full situation, or what is happening now with it."

"But from a footballing point of view, he is the best available for France."

"I think he should definitely have a place."

"It is not my decision to make, but I think he should be called up, if it possible."

Benzema is the tenth highest goalscorer in the history of the French side, with 27 goals in 81 appearances between 2007 and 2015, just two goals behind Barcelona's Antoine Griezmann and four behind Zidane himself.
