Barcelona board support boss Ernesto Valverde

Ernesto Valverde retains the support of the board at Barcelona but there are concerns over the level of recent performances.

The Blaugrana were hugely disappointing in the scoreless draw against Slavia Prague at the Camp Nou on Tuesday, which means their hopes of progressing from a tough group are no longer guaranteed.

It followed on just three days after Valverde’s side slipped to a 3-1 league defeat at Levante – their third loss in La Liga in just 11 outings.

Fans voiced their displeasure at the full-time whistle on Tuesday with the visiting Czech side a superior team and creating chances themselves to pick up all three points.

ESPN FC report that Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu is not an individual to rush into such decisions and he supports Valverde for the time being, although there is a recognition that performances must improve.

There have been calls since last season for Valverde to be replaced – primarily due to underperformance in European competition: Barca have suffered harrowing Champions League exits against Roma and Liverpool.

Valverde has won the league title in each of his two seasons at the Camp Nou alongside the Copa del Rey in 2018.
