Valencia boss Albert Celades praised the spirit and resilience of his side after coming from behind to defeat Lille 4-1 on Tuesday.
The result transforms Los Che’s hopes of progression in the Champions League group stage – where they now have seven points from their four games to date.
Valencia are now level on points with both Ajax and Chelsea at the top of the group and with two teams to go through, they are now right in the mix.
It was the fifth games of Celades’ short tenure in which they have come from behind to earn at least a draw, and follows on from the weekend win at Espanyol, when they also fallen a goal behind.
“The situations are the same, this is not new for us and we are used to it (going a goal down),” Celades explained, as cited by Marca.
“We have had good first halves but not brilliant but we kept believing in what we were doing, and that we were close to getting that first goal.
“It was a matter of resilience and to keep plugging away, but my players were phenomenal in the second half.
“We thank the fans for the support. They have been patient in difficult situations. They have pushed us in the second half, at a time when their support was needed.
“I love that Mestalla is a pressure cooker. That's how we want it. Today is an example. We need the support of the people and these players deserve it. The fans patience paid off.
“We now have two victories in a row and our aim must be to build on this.”
