Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has rejected the notion that the club has A, B and C teams: “I always leave out quality players.”
It comes amid reports that certain players – such as Fede Valverde and Rodrygo Goes – have established themselves in Zidane’s planned starting XI.
It also comes amid question marks over the futures of a number of players, including Isco, Gareth Bale, Brahim Diaz and others.
“I don't have a 'Plan A' or a 'Plan B',” Zidane told reporters at his pre-match press conference, as cited by Marca.
“Every three days I have to leave out quality players and I count on everyone, that's what bothers me the most.
“I try to choose the best ones, but I can change. I don't like being said to have a team A or a team B or C. It's not true.”
Zidane then addressed a number of individual player questions.
“Gareth Bale? This topic is already old. Bale is already here, little by little learning. We are with him and want him to come back into selection. If you want more explanations, ask him.
“Marcelo's anxiety? I didn't know about those statements. But it's normal to be nervous before a Champions League final. You're more stressed, it's completely normal. I've also experienced it as a player.
“Rodrygo and Vinícius? All players know they can play and must be prepared. Rodrygo is playing now and Vinicius must continue working. They know I have all the players.
“Tips for Rodrygo? What I try is to be calm. As with everyone else. He must work, he is 18 years old, he must be calm and prepared. He is young, but he has quality and personality.
“Eden Hazard? We see him improved. What he lacks is scoring regularly. We are happy with what he does on the pitch. It is normal to give him some time. When he starts scoring regularly we will be even happier.”
