Carles Alena to leave Barcelona in January loan deal

Barcelona have decided to allow Carles Alena to leave on loan in January according to reports in Diario Sport.

The 21-year old has been linked with a move away from Catalonia in recent months, with Premier League duo Tottenham and Arsenal both reported to be interested in signing him.

However, Barcelona are only keen on a loan move from January until the end of the current season, as they look to give the Spanish U21 international more first team football.

They are not looking to include a purchase option in the deal, meaning the two Premier League sides may withdraw their interest as they look to boost their midfield options for the 2020-21 season.

Alena broke into the Barcelona first team last season, with 17 La Liga appearances, after making his senior debut back in 2016.

However he has made just one appearance this so far this season, with Ernesto Valverde opting to promote Carles Perez and Ansu Fati to the first team, leaving Alena and Riqui Puig playing more reserve football.

Barcelona are reportedly in favour of a loan move to another La Liga side, so they can assess his progress more closely, and make a final decision on the highly rated midfielder.
