Diego Simeone hails Atletico Madrid fans as ‘Spain’s best’

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has praised the club's fans as the best in world football.

The Argentinean manager was speaking following their 2-0 win at home to Athletic Bilbao, which sees Los Rojiblancos move up to second in the La Liga table.

"It was a big win, and we have played in three tremendous matches of tonight, and against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League and Valencia.

"And the fans were extraordinary again.

"We have had 180,000 people here for three games.

"They are the best in Spain, no doubt about it.

"It is not always easy to come to so many games, but there are always here for the team."

Simeone also praised the crowd for their reaction to captain Koke, who has come in for recent criticism for his performances so far this season.

The home fans sang his name through the win over the Basque side, and Simeone is confident that the Spanish international is back on track.

"The club has to remain together forever.

"We have a new team this season, but we need to look forward.

"Koke may have had bad games this season, but he is always there and the fans know how important he is to the team."

Atletico now face three successive away games in the next fortnight, with La Liga trips to Alaves and Sevilla, and a return Champions League tie with Bayer Leverkusen.
