Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes wins first Brazil call-up

Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes has received his first call up to the Brazil senior team, but there is no place for Vinicius Junior.

The 18-year-old had starred with Santos in his native Brazil before joining Madrid this summer after the two club’s struck a €45m deal in 2018.

Rodrygo had played a prominent role with the Brazil Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 sides, but this is his first call up to the senior squad – who will play Argentina and South Korea.

He is one of seven Spain-based players in the Brazil squad, including Madrid teammates Casemiro and Eder Militao, but Vinicius is not included in Tite’s squad.

Atletico Madrid duo Felipe Monteiro and Renan Lodi, alongside Barcelona midfielder Arthur Melo, are included while there is also a first call-up for Real Betis defender Emerson – who has a future agreement in place to join the Blaugrana.

Rodrygo scored his first goal for Madrid earlier in the season against Osasuna and started for the first time in the midweek win over Galatasaray.
