Real Madrid have identified Athletic Club Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon as a possible signing in 2020, according to reports.
The 22-year-old has been first choice at the Basque giants this season ahead of Iago Herrerin and is said to have a €50m release clause in his current contract.
Simon has been a regular for the Spain Under-21 squads in recent years and helped the side to this summer’s European Championships title and is seen as one of the most promising goalkeepers in La Liga.
A report in El Desmarque now claims Simon is a transfer objective for Madrid who see him as ‘agile, has good reflexes, good shot-stopping, good aerial game and good positioning.’
It is said that not all senior officials at Madrid believe Thibaut Courtois is the long-term solution for the goalkeeper slot, while Alphonso Areola is likely to return to Paris Saint-Germain next summer.
Simon has made eight La Liga appearances for Gaizka Garitano’s side so far this campaign.
